
After breaking a long losing streak in Chicago, now the Seattle Mariners have their sights set on continuing a series in Detroit.
Trying to win a fifth straight Comerica Park, the Mariners will face a stiff test from Tigers' Justin Verlander on Thursday night night in the opener of a four-game series.
The Mariners dominated the Tigers 32-7 over last four games in Detroit, including a three-game sweep from April 26-28.
Miguel Olivo led Seattle in this series goes 7 for 13 with two homers. Justin Smoak also went deep twice and drove in eight, and Ichiro Suzuki, Chone Figgins added five hits each.
Since allowing four runs in six innings of 10-1 loss to the Mariners, April 27, however, Verlander (6-3, 3.04 ERA) has not been beaten.
Right-hander is 4-0 and 2.56 ERA in seven starts, a stretch that includes his second career no-hitter on May 7 at Toronto. While recording wins in each of his last two appearances, Verlander has allowed two runs and 11 hits 15 2-3 innings with 10 strikeouts.
